Paul Atkins has spent the last forty years working with wood, for which he has a great love. Paul is a bespoke joiner, producing bespoke joinery in his Surrey workshop. The first twenty-five years was spent with a local family firm, in Surrey, where he served a traditional apprenticeship. For the last fifteen years he has had my own workshop, where he makes bespoke furniture and joinery.
When embarking on a new project, Paul Atkins makes a home visit to chat with the client about their bespoke furniture requirements and individual tastes. Browsing through his extensive bespoke furniture portfolio, usually helps them decide on the style and timber that they want although Paul is happy to work to the client’s own designs or provide design ideas. The close working relationship has with his clients and the pride he takes in his work are factors that secure a loyal customer base.
Having worked extensively in the Palace of Westminster and for many well known celebrities. His influences in bespoke furniture design include the Arts and Crafts Movement and Shaker furniture. When working on period houses Paul feel it is important that the piece of bespoke furniture or joinery should be in keeping with its surroundings, including copying existing mouldings.
